JK Unlimited student, Avantika, auditioned for Zee TV's Dance India Dance | North America Edition with a piece choreographed by Joya. It won her a spot as one of the Top 10 Finalists from across the U.S. She set out on the journey from California to Mumbai, India to compete on India's #1 rated dance show. Avantika performed yet another cutting-edge choreography created by Ms. Joya just for DID during Finals and won the trophy as 1st Runner Up!
A few words from Avantika: "After Ms. Joya Choreographed my audition piece, I was so excited to be in the Top 10, but I was very nervous at the same time because I only had 5 days until I left for India for the actual competition. I am glad I have Ms. Joya as my teacher. She was readily available to teach me a new piece for the show on Skype. She taught me efficiently in such a short time, patiently corrected all my mistakes, and gave me an encouraing talk before I left for the competition. I won 1st Runner Up and all the credit goes to her for teaching me. Her training is incredible!"
Joya performed at the International Indian Film Academy Awards in Tampa Bay, FL on April 26, 2014 and shared the stage with Bollywood's biggest stars, Madhuri Dixit, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Siddharth Malhotra, & Ranveer Singh. As a Shiamak Davar Dance Competition finalist, Joya had the incredible opportunity to work with & learn from Shiamak Davar & his company dancers.
Joya appeared as a guest choreographer alongside Shane Sparks (SYTYCD & ABDC choreographer, ABDC judge & "You Got Served" choreographer) at Choreography Pros' Pro Dance Team Convention 7/12-7/13 in Scottsdale, AZ. Joya performed at the Recording Academy's Official Grammy After-Party on Sunday, February 10th, 2013 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The star-studded event featured performances by Grammy winner, Estelle, the B-52's, DJ Michelle Pesce, and Arturo Sandoval. The celebration was themed after the cinematic Bollywood world of India, showcasing it's vibrant colors, beauty, and dance culture.
Joya was featured in the Los Angeles "BollyDoll" Dome Show production. Co-Directors Amrita Sen, who performed "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionaire at the 2009 Academy Awards with A.R. Rahman, and Anthony Marinelli, who began his career playing the keyboards on Michael Jackson's megahit album, "Thriller", are the masterminds behind the show. BollyDoll showcases a 360 degree screen, live dancers, musicians and animations. In addition to choreographing for the show, Joya plays the main character, Princess Bolly, whose featured song is Timbaland's "Pass at Me" featuring Pitbull and BollyDoll and is produced by David Guetta.
Joya has been dancing and touring with Mystic India- The World Tour since August 2012. She is not only featured as a lead dancer and choreographer, but is also working as Mystic India's Dance Captain in Los Angeles. The show is an explosion of colors and energy based on the concept of ancient India's transition into modern India.
