Thank You + Exciting Updates from the Director!
On June 18th, the Curtis Theatre in Brea, California was filled with dazzling costumes, vibrant melodies, and dancing feet for Joya Kazi Unlimited's Spring Showcase, Shakti – The Power Within. The show featured two fresh company acts, fifteen diverse student performances, a Father's Day tribute, and a very special video message from our Artistic Director, Joya Kazi, who is working on an exciting project in Mumbai, India.
The success of Shakti – The Power Within was a community effort and would not have been possible without the support we have received along the way. Here is a Letter of Thanks from Artistic Director, Joya Kazi:
We have spent the last two quarters preparing for our Spring Showcase and I am so excited and proud to see all of our students' hard work meet the stage. Our students performed pieces in commercial, urban and classical styles of Bollywood including Kathak and Bharatnatyam. It's inspiring to see all the hard work and passion our young students put into preparing for the show.
I want to personally thank all our Academy's students and parents for your incredible support in my latest dream Bollywood project in Mumbai, India. This is the very first time I am visiting India and it's all the more exciting because it's for a project that truly brings my lifelong dance studies and training full circle. I have the honor of being a part of Star Plus's "Dance Plus 3" reality dance television show with the international crew "House of Suraj" which specializes in mixing the elements of Bollywood and Waacking. We are making history as the very first all-female Bollywhack crew on television! The show is produced by leading Bollywood choreographer, Remo D'Souza, and judged by industry choreographers, Punit Pathak, Shakti Mohan, and Dharmesh. Don't miss the Grand Premiere on July 1st at 8PM on Saturday and Sunday to follow our journey and vote!
I have been working towards this since I was 8 years old and your support and best wishes mean so much to me. I would like to especially thank our incredible company of dancers and my family who truly pushed me to take the leap for this project and who ensured that all came together so wonderfully for showcase. Through this experience, I have already been able to challenge myself and grow as an artist to be able to give back even more to our Academy! Miss you all and can't wait to see you all next quarter!
